How to Set Goals- that work!

Many people do not understand the importance of setting goals. many of us live life as if things are just supposed to happen in due time. This is true in some cases, but we also have the ability to speed up the time frame if we wish to. We can do this be establishing goals. Clear - Measurable goals.

How many of us felt we should have been promoted sooner?
How many of us feel we need to loose weight?
How many of us feel we don;t spend time with family?
How many of us feel that we cannot save any money?

Yes, we have all felt some of these situations did/ have not worked in our favor. We usually end up blaming something or someone for these events not taking place. However- it is always our job to set goals to reach the places we want to be. We may not ALWAYS get what we want on our time, but we can definitely make sure that we are not contributing to the delay. Many of us are doing just that- we are contributing to the slow motion of our lives. We can do better- we must do better.

Regardless of what your goal may/ need to be. Identify what would bring you joy/ happiness/ health/ healing/ and freedom. It could be your sinking in debt- it could be you have gained weight/ it could be you feel stuck at your job. No matter what the problem- you can identify it and do something about it.

With that said- set goals. Yea, I can see many of you wanting to close this out right now. However- setting goals is traditionally done the wrong way by many- which is why they do not see any results. Goals are totally about what your capable of doing! Its what you want get done! So, in this respect you should treat a GOAL as if it is a seed that is being planted. You must water it and nourish it so it can flourish and bloom!

How to set GOALS- the right way.

1st - Identify what you want to accomplish. The goal needs o be something reasonable. Do not try to take on the world by setting the bar too high. Start small so you can build momentum! Seeing the process work is a big boost to our self esteem.

2nd- Write your goal down and 3 affirmation to attain that goal. This is the MOST important part in my opinion. Writing your goal down plants the seed. When you write the goal down, do it in a manner which is positive. It should be an affirmation type of statement. A True statement that is a part of you. An affirmation quality which will assist in the goal process. Examples of affirmation to support a goal of loosing weight.

Goal- Weight Loss of 5 lbs in 2 weeks
I am capable of exercising 3 times a week because I am a dedicated person
I am capable of swimming 20 laps because I am a great swimmer

AVOID affirmation such as:
I will stop making excuses to exercise
I will stop complaining when I need to exercise
I will stop being lazy... etc..

This is just an example of how to set goals. Just writing the goal down does nothing on its own- but when you plant seeds of positive affirmations along with it- it now has LIFE. It has FAITH in it. It has determination and factual evidence within it that proves it can be done. Be as creative as possible on this step 2. Write the goal and affirmation down in places where you can see it and recite it. Put them in the car- bathroom- nightstand- computer desk- cell phone. Put them anywhere so you can readily access them and read them. Important- Read them every morning to keep your mind focused on the goal. Plant the positive words in your mind! They will help you through when times get difficult!

3rd- Set a deadline. Keep the goal on a time frame. Remember this is your goal- control it by setting parameters. Make the deadline reasonable and realistic. Setting the bar too high may result in a loss of enthusiasm- likewise setting the bar to low may not give you a sense of accomplishment.

4th- Ensure the goal can be measured. No need in doing all this if you cannot measure your progress. This is especially true of goals that may take longer periods of time (6 months or more). But even if it is short term.. you may want to have a way to "know" that your moving in the right direction. Without measuring you may be moving backwards or even keel. If this is the case you may need to re-evaluate your goal and make adjustments.

Remember- that if you do not accomplish your goal on the time frame you set- or need more time- CHANGE THE GOAL. Keep in mind you want to be efficient- but if circumstances change- change your goal so that you are still working productively towards it!

See this was not hard!

Good LUCK and I would love to hear your success in the goals you have set and accomplished! Also any step that you think is beneficial - I would love to hear it.
